Pedagogy for children
The Montessori pedagogy only exists for children from 0 to 12 years old, i.e. until primary school (infant program, toddler program, preschool and elementary school) but there also are some middle schools and high schools of Montessori influence (where professors are familiar with Montessori teaching and respect its values and the child’s values).
Our school respects the common basis of the official bulletin of the Education Nationale published by the French government.
From 0 to 12 years old: 4 types of plans (names that we give the classes)
The Montessori pedagogy divides the school system in 3 age groups:
- The first, “Nido” goes from 3 months old to children of walking age (infant program).
- The second, “The youth community”, goes from walking age to 3 years old (toddler program).
- The third is called “Children’s House” and represents preschool for 3 to 6 year olds.
- The fourth, called “elementary school”, is split in two classes: one for 6 to 9 year olds, the other for 9 to 11 year olds. However, in some establishments, these two classes work together forming only one class for 6 to 11 year olds.
The transition from one class to the next is flexible and can happen during the school year. According to Montessori methodists, it allows the child to follow his own pace and not to stall or accelerate his development.
